The Rampur Hound is a distinguished Indian sighthound breed originating from the hamlet of Rampur, strategically located between Bareilly and Delhi. This remarkable dog rampur hound was masterfully developed by His Royal Highness Ahmed Ali Khan Bahadur, who skillfully combined the bloodlines of the powerful yet ferocious Afghan Tazi with the more obedient English Greyhound, creating a breed better adapted to India’s varying climatic conditions.
Named after its place of origin, the Rampur Hound is a powerfully built hunting companion with formidable strength – capable of bringing down large game including bulls, while also excelling at hunting vermin, deer, and jackals.

Temperament: These remarkable dogs are known for their strong human companionship, excellent adjustment with other dogs, and clean living habits. While they may appear relaxed, they possess incredible charging power when needed.

Historical Significance
The Rampur Hound gained tremendous popularity about 100 years ago when Pathan traders carried these prized dogs throughout Rajputana, Central India, and lower Bengal. Traditional hunting expeditions were elaborate affairs – hunters would gather before sunrise, share breakfast, then release the hounds once game was sighted. After successful hunts, the dogs were refreshed with baths at nearby ponds or water sources.
